INVERNESS, Scotland – On the cusp of missing his first cut in the Scottish Open since 2010, Phil Mickelson was Phil Mickelson.
Lefty made a momentous eagle and turned a missed cut into playing on the weekend at Castle Stuart.
Starting the day, Mickelson had to dig his way out of a 4-over 76 that he produced in a windy afternoon on Thursday.
The campaign to make the cut didn’t start well, as two bogeys over the first four holes sunk Mickelson to 6 over and four back of the projected cut.
Then came the 337-yard par-4 16th hole, where Mickelson put up an eagle two.
