PGA's Grand Slam of Golf cancelled permanently

The PGA of America announced on Wednesday it has discontinued the PGA Grand Slam of Golf.

The statement on PGA.com said: “When the PGA Grand Slam of Golf was launched in 1979, the golf world was much different than it is today. The PGA Tour's wrap-around schedule, the European Tour's Race to Dubai, plus other important international events, make the fall schedule very busy and hectic for the top players in the world.”

This event brought together the year’s four major winners for a two-day, 36-hole stroke play competition.

The PGA of America started having a hard time fitting the event on the calendar when the PGA Tour began its wraparound schedule in 2014.
