PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii – Billy Hurley III and his wife, Heather, didn’t own a TV as newlyweds. The idea was to bond over board games and good conversation. Besides, Hurley, 26, wasn’t too excited about watching his former Walker Cup teammates win PGA Tour titles while he sat on his living-room sofa in Honolulu.
Not his idea of paradise.
“I’m sort of the guy on the outside who knows everyone on the inside,” said Hurley, who also didn’t like showing up Sunday at the Tour’s Sony Open this year without a player badge. Turns out he’s not much of a spectator.
