PGA Tour Returns to Alabama With Stars Across the Pond

OPELIKA, Ala. — David Toms figures some of the younger guys on the PGA Tour have a strong chance at the Barbasol Championship.

The biggest names are across the pond at the British Open this weekend, which could open the field in Alabama for some up-and-comer to come away with a breakthrough win or high finish. The inaugural event starts Thursday at the Grand National's Lake Course, part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.

Toms says the tournament "is very important for some of the younger players." He says even if it might be considered a weaker field "the winner this week is going to play great golf.
