ST. LEON-ROT, Germany — Suzann Pettersen has apologized for making the controversial call that left U.S. players fuming before their comeback victory in the Solheim Cup.
Pettersen had demanded American rookie Alison Lee be penalized at the 17th hole of their morning fourball match Sunday for picking the ball up when she thought the putt was conceded.
The Norwegian, who initially said she did the right thing and would "totally" do it again, took to social media on Monday saying she "never felt more gutted and truly sad about what went down."
Pettersen says: "I was trying my hardest for my team and put the single match and the point that could be earned ahead of sportsmanship and the game of golf itself!
