INVERNESS, Scotland – Patrick Reed is looking forward to replacing Dustin Johnson in the U.S. Olympic golf team, but left himself leeway to also pull out if he considers the risk too great.
Reed qualified for the Olympics after Johnson announced his decision not to play because of Zika virus fears. Reed, who bleeds red, white and blue, became the next player in line to join the U.S. team.
“I would love to play for my country,” he said. “Mathematically I think I’m a lock – I’m not 100% sure – but hopefully I can go out and wear the stars and stripes.
