As members of their respective national teams, Maxence de Craecker and Tiago Rodrigues have played golf around the world. But they wondered why there isn't an elite amateur event in what they consider the golf capital of the world.
They hope to change that with the Orlando International Amateur.
Craecker, who has represented Belgium in the European Amateur Team Championship, and Rodrigues, a member of the Portugal National Team who is finishing up his career at Rollins College, are the tournament directors of the event that will be played for the first time Dec. 28-30 at Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge in Winter Garden, Fla.
