CARNOUSTIE, Scotland – Jordan Niebrugge’s main focus this week isn’t necessarily on winning the 120th British Amateur Championship. He sees it more as part of his overall golfing education.
Niebrugge, a rising senior at Oklahoma State, is making his first trip to the British Isles. So far, so good. He has returned scores of 71 at Panmure and 69 at Carnoustie for a 36-hole total of 2-under 140 Tuesday to qualify for match play.
He needs to get through seven rounds if he’s to become the first American to win the Amateur Championship since 2007, when Drew Weaver prevailed at Royal Lytham & St.
