CARMEL, Ind. – Dustin Johnson received a new putter late in his pro-am round Wednesday. He needed only four holes to decide to make the switch.
Putting a TaylorMade Spider Limited mallet in play for the first time, Johnson took just 23 putts and led the field in strokes-gained putting during an opening-round 67 that put him just two shots off the lead at the BMW Championship.
“The past few weeks I’ve just been struggling to get the putter on line, like the line that I was seeing,” he said. “The practice with it this morning was really good, so I kept it going and it rolled really nicely today.
