Muirfield plans to hold another vote on whether to allow female members at the club.
The news, announced Monday by the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, comes just six weeks after the club failed to secure the required two-thirds vote of its membership. Of the 95 members who were eligible to vote, 64 percent were in favor of admitting female members.
As a result, the R&A removed Muirfield, which hosted the Open Championship as recently as 2013, from the rota for the foreseeable future. The R&A did not say whether it would reconsider its stance if Muirfield changed the policy.
