MORNING READ: The Classic Golf Courses of Columbus, Including Muirfield Village Golf Club, Home to This Week's Memorial Tournament

IN MORNING READ TRAVELIN' JOE PASSOV wrote, "The late, great Dan Jenkins once called Columbus, 'the best city in which to study golf course architecture.'"

With the help of Ohio natives (and course designers) Tom Weiskopf and Dr. Michael Hurdzan, Passov highlights Donald Ross, Alister MacKenzie, Pete Dye and Jack Nicklaus, whose works "all dot the landscape."

There's Scioto Country Club, a Ross design; MacKenzie's Ohio State Scarlet course; The Golf Club, a Pete Dye creation; and, of course, Muirfield Village, the course Jack built.

Here's the passage on this week's venue:

MUIRFIELD VILLAGE GOLF CLUB
Ranked 16th in the country by Golf Digest, 46-year-old Muirfield Village represents Nicklaus' first foray into golf course design with his name on the plans.
