Monahan officially named PGA Tour commissioner

Jay Monahan has officially been appointed as the next commissioner of the PGA Tour.

Monahan was unanimously approved Monday during a meeting of the Tour's policy board at its headquarters in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. He takes over the position from Tim Finchem, who has served as the Tour's top official since June 1994 and will retire at the end of the year.

Monahan will officially take office on Jan. 1. He is the fourth commissioner in the Tour's 47-year history, joining Joe Dey (1969-1974), Deane Beman (1974-1994) and Finchem.

"I am greatly honored by the trust the policy board has shown in me to succeed Tim Finchem as commissioner," Monahan said in a release.
