Italy's Francesco Molinari announced Tuesday that he has withdrawn from the Olympics.
Molinari is ranked No. 56 in the world and was a runner-up at the Open de France in his most recent start. He was expected to represent Italy in the 60-man field alongside Nino Bertasio, but instead becomes the 20th male player to opt out of playing in Rio.
Molinari's spot will now go to Matteo Manassero, ranked No. 342 in the world after a T-3 finish last week at the Scottish Open. Molinari detailed his reasons for withdrawing in an Instagram post written in both Italian and English.
