RUMFORD, R.I. — Michael Johnson and Cameron Champ each know what it's like to be away from golf.
Johnson missed the entire 2013-14 college golf season because of bursitis in his left hip. Champ played just two events as a freshman for Texas A&M last season after suffering a stress fracture in his back last fall.
Now healthy, Johnson and Champ are both in contention entering Saturday’s final round of the Northeast Amateur at Wannamoisett Country Club.
Johnson, a rising senior at Auburn, posted a third-round 2-under 67 Friday to grab a share of the lead with Vanderbilt grad Hunter Stewart at 6 under.
