DUBLIN, Ohio – Johnny Miller, Horton Smith and Leo Diegel were recognized as the 2016 Memorial Tournament honorees on Sunday at Muirfield Village.
Miller, who wracked up 25 PGA Tour titles during a full-time career that spanned 20 years, may be best known for 25 years of critical analysis as a golf commentator for NBC. His two career major victories included the 1973 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club and the 1976 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. He shot a course-record, 8-under 63 in the final round at Oakmont to win the U.S. Open.
The 63 was a record that stood for 30 years until Vijay Singh duplicated the feat in the 2003 U.
