PGA Tour golfer Mike Weir has taken an indefinite leave of absence from professional golf.
Weir, the 2003 Masters champion who turned 45 in May, made the announcement via his Twitter account Friday.
"Family is incredibly important to me and I have decided to take some time to focus on my personal life and children," wrote Weir on the social media site.
Weir, who will not play in next week's RBC Canadian Open, is a native of Sarnia, Ontario. In 18 Tour events this season he's missed 14 cuts. He has been playing on a medical extension.
