Golf Channel has learned that Phil Mickelson has informed the PGA Tour he will not play next week’s WGC-Cadillac Match Play.
Mickelson, who will be replaced in the field by world No. 68 Mikko Ilonen, cited “personal reasons” for his decision to not play the event at Harding Park in San Francisco.
Lefty hasn’t played the Match Play since 2011 and has never advanced past the third round, although with this year’s format change to include round-robin pool play each of the 64 players is assured at least three rounds at Harding Park.
