DORAL, Fla. — A sprinter, he’s not. Just not Phil Mickelson’s style. But for the bulk of his play thus far in 2016, the left-hander has started rounds beautifully. It’s the kick to the finish line that been missing.
Crazy, huh? A guy who has won five major championships and 37 other PGA Tour tournaments having an issue with some closing swings? Doesn’t figure, does it?
Mickelson would agree, which is why he could wear a huge smile after Thursday’s opening round of the WGC Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral. The best swings of the 67 he took came on the closing four holes, something that has been missing thus far this season.
