Mickelson jokes with fan he beaned in the head

DUBLIN, Ohio – A scary situation had a happy ending Thursday at the Memorial Tournament.

Phil Mickelson pulled his drive on the par-5 15th, and it struck a volunteer in the head. The volunteer was standing in the right rough, and Mickelson's ball him so hard that the ball ricocheted across the fairway into the left rough.

The volunteer wasn't knocked out nor bleeding and was a good sport when Mickelson gave him a signed glove and a huge apology.

"If your head was a touch softer I'd be in the fairway," Mickelson joked with the volunteer before making a birdie on the hole.
