Mickelson (66) eyes late run at Presidents Cup berth

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. – Phil Mickelson wants to earn his way onto the American Presidents Cup team, and he’s hoping Saturday’s 6-under-par 66 at the PGA Championship is a sign he still has time.

“I don’t want to have to be a [captain’s] pick,” Mickelson said. “I haven’t been a pick in 20 years.”

Mickelson, 45, is 36th on the U.S. Presidents Cup points list. The top 10 at the conclusion of the Deutsche Bank Championship in three weeks automatically qualify for the team. Mickelson plans to play The Barclays and the Deutsche Bank Championship over the next three weeks.
