Not that it was a Shakespearean moment — you know, parting is such sweet sorrow and all that stuff — but Michael Allen did want to show that he appreciated everything his trusty putter had helped him with the last few years.
So when the final putting stroke had been played Sunday in the final Champions Tour tournament before the anchoring ban goes into effect, the 56-year-old Allen kissed the putter and laid it down.
All in all, a respectful way “to bid farewell,” Allen said. “I’m just glad somebody noticed.”
The action probably was missed by most of the folks watching the final round of the Charles Schwab Cup Championship at Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, Ariz.
