'Mentally tired' Garcia opens with 74 at Spanish Open

Sergio Garcia admittedly was flat Thursday at the Spanish Open, shooting a 3-over 74 in the first round of the tournament hosted by his foundation. He is currently eight shots back of Alexander Levy.

This is Garcia’s seventh event in the past two months. After his first round at Valderrama, he attributed his sluggish start to mental fatigue.

“I’m in a difficult moment of the season,” he told reporters afterward. “I’m a little bit mentally tired, I guess, which is disappointing for me to come here to the Spanish Open and feel like I am not maybe as strong mentally as I would like to be.
