ST. LEON-ROT, Germany – There was a time when Mel Reid didn’t want to step foot in Germany. Her mother, Joy, died in a head-on car crash near Munich three years ago, and it was too painful to return.
This week, with a couple dozen friends and family, she’s writing a new script. At the Solheim Cup, on her 28th birthday, she roared like a mighty lion around St. Leon-Rot Golf Club. For those who have known of her story, how she nearly quit the game twice, it was a beautiful thing.
The perfect gift.
“So far it’s been an incredible week,” said Reid, “and we want to finish off tomorrow.
