On a day when 24 players punched their tickets to the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay via the Official World Golf Ranking, five more players advanced out of sectional qualifying Monday in Japan.
Wen-Chong Liang posted consecutive 7-under 65s at Kinojo Golf Club in Okayama Prefecture to capture medalist honors. Masahiro Kawamura, Seuk Hyun Baek, Kurt Barnes and Hiroyuki Fujita also advanced to the June 18-21 major championship.
Baek, Barnes and Fujita earned their invites via a five-for-three playoff. Shunsuke Sonoda and Toru Taniguchi were eliminated in the playoff and received first-alternate and second-alternate status, respectively.
