SAN FRANCISCO – Rory McIlroy said he will spend his 26th birthday on Monday at home with his parents and a friend before heading up to TPC Sawgrass on Wednesday for The Players.
He’ll also take a moment to check the Official World Golf Ranking website, although there will be no surprise where he is listed.
“Every Monday morning I go onto the website and look at what my lead is,” he said. “Tomorrow will be the same. It’s nice to be in that position.”
McIlroy’s victory at the WGC-Cadillac Match Play was worth 76 points, increasing his average in the ranking to 12.
