NORTON, Mass. — It took more than 10 months and 40 tournaments to get to the first FedEx Cup playoff event but only a four-hour car ride to reach the cusp of the second one. The Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston, some 250 miles northeast of last week’s Barclay, seemingly will be enveloped in late-summer heat when it gets underway Friday. However, the return of World No. 1 Rory McIlroy to answer the torrid play of FedEx Cup No. 1 Jason Day will trump the weather as a storyline.
Oh, and not to be forgotten is the presence of Jordan Spieth, who used to be the hottest golfer in the galaxy, at least until Day turned things around at Whistling Straits.
