Count Rory McIlroy among those who were a bit surprised at U.S. Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III's announcement Wednesday that Tiger Woods will be one of Love's vice captains for the 2016 matches at Hazeltine National.
McIlroy was asked about his reaction to the news Thursday in Dubai, where he sits two shots back after one round of the DP World Tour Championship.
"I mean, he's not playing?" McIlroy said. "I don't know what to think about that. … It's great that he wants to help the U.S. team in any way that he can, and if that's not in a playing capacity, then as a vice captain.
