Rory McIlroy hits a poor shot into the water, then deposits more equipment into the same hazard. Where have we seen this before?
No, this time McIlroy didn't send one of his clubs flying as he did at Doral. Instead, the Ulsterman took a precarious drop after hitting his drive into the water on the par-5 18th at the WGC-HSBC Champions.
With only inches separating his intended drop spot and the edge of the water, McIlroy watched helplessly as his brand new ball hit off the bank and disappeared below the surface, lost without ever touching a club face:
McIlroy was not penalized for the poorly-executed drop, and eventually he found a way to get his ball to settle on terra firma en route to a par save.
