Rory McIlroy made only two birdies in the third round at the Irish Open, but he took control of the tournament and finished the day with a three-shot lead over Masters champion Danny Willett.
And they still have three holes – and two par 5s – to play in Round 3 after two lightning delays halted play at the K Club.
“Hopefully I can take advantage of those [par 5s] and get a couple of birdies,” McIlroy said as he walked off the course.
He started the day one stroke behind Willett and Marc Warren, but the final pairing quickly faded.
