McDowell strong as Mickelson, Holmes struggle

American J.B. Holmes could be forgiven for wishing his clubs had never arrived after being blown off course in the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open in Inverness.

Holmes only received his clubs at 7pm on Wednesday evening after they were lost in transit from last week's WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio.

The former Ryder Cup player -- who was part of the last U.S. victory in his home state of Kentucky in 2008 -- immediately headed out to practice at Castle Stuart but it failed to do him much good on a windswept opening day as he slumped to nine over par after 12 holes.
