OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. — Nothing can keep Lee McCoy down at the U.S. Amateur.
Two bogeys in his opening four holes Monday at Olympia Fields Country Club’s South Course didn’t prove to be a problem.
“Those first five holes are all long and into the wind. There’s no let-up in that stretch,” McCoy said. “And with how poorly I was hitting the ball, I wasn’t really upset about being 2 over through five.”
Neither was a ghastly performance at Olympia Fields the day before the championship.
“If I kept score in my practice round yesterday, I would’ve shot 82,” McCoy said.
