When Maverick McNealy heeled a 3-wood into the water on the 17th hole at the Gifford Collegiate Championship, he kept his head up. If there’s anything McNealy has learned in the past 18 months, it’s that winning comes in all shapes and sizes.
Heck, last month McNealy learned he’d co-medaled at the U.S. Collegiate at the airport gate after checking the scores. That 3-footer he missed on the final hole wasn’t as costly as imagined in a final-round 67.
And so on Nov. 4 at the Gifford, a calm McNealy, rolled in a 40-footer for par on the penultimate hole and then headed to the 18th.
