A second consecutive five-birdie round greeted Matt Jones on Friday, and it allowed him to move three shots ahead at the Emirates Australian Open.
The Aussie fired a second-round 4-under 67, punctuated by a birdie on 18, to surge to 7 under and well clear of his challengers at the Australian Golf Club. Fellow countryman Todd Sinnott occupies second place alone at 4 under, one ahead of a five-way logjam for third.
Jones has never won the Australian Open, although he did contend in 2010 before finishing T-2 to Geoff Ogilvy, and while the specter of taking home this crown has entered his mind, he does understand he's only 36 holes in.
