Defending champion Sergio Garcia made a dreadful start to the 2018 Masters in Augusta, Georgia, hitting five shots in the water to card nine-over par, while Jordan Spieth strode into a six-under lead at the end of the first round.
Garcia scored a 13 on the 15th hole, the joint-worst for a single hole in the entire history of the tournament, effectively ending his chances of winning back-to-back green jackets. The Spaniard will most likely struggle to make the cut after his second round.
Elsewhere, Rory McIlroy made a strong start with a three-under 69, putting him within touching distance of Spieth, while Tony Finau and Matt Kuchar both carded four-under to complete the top three.
