SPRINGFIELD, N.J. – Martin Kaymer has experienced the highest of highs – two major championships, World No. 1, and a Ryder Cup clinching putt, just to name a few. What do those accomplishments share in common? Each was achieved in an even-numbered year.
So it should come as no surprise that Kaymer has jumped into contention at the 2016 PGA Championship after making birdie on both of the par 5s Thursday en route to a 4-under 66 at Baltusrol Golf Club’s Lower Course. Kaymer joined Emiliano Grillo and Ross Fisher in second place, one stroke behind first-round leader Jimmy Walker.
