Maltbie reunited with lost winner's check from 1975

NORTON, Mass. – In 1975, Roger Maltbie closed with a 66 to win the Pleasant Valley Open in nearby Sutton, Mass., the second of five victories on the PGA Tour.

That one-shot victory over Mac McLendon, however, has always held a special place in Maltbie’s heart after he “misplaced” his winner’s check.

On Saturday at TPC Boston, Maltbie was reunited with that $40,000 check after Pleasant Valley Country Club’s current head professional Paul Parajeckas returned the winnings to the NBC and Golf Channel analyst.

Maltbie, who lost the check during his post-victory celebration at a local bar in 1975, was issued another check by tournament officials, but joked on Saturday at TPC Boston that he was happy the banks were closed or he would try to cash his winnings – for the second time.
