Peter Malnati and Casey Wittenberg share the first-round lead at the Web.com Tour's El Bosque Mexico Championship after rounds of 7-under 65.
Malnati, who is No. 1 on the tour's money list, ended his day on a tear, playing the front nine in 6-under 30 with six birdies after starting on No. 10. Malnati, a 27-year-old Missouri alumnus, won earlier this year at the Brasil Champions.
Wittenberg, a 30-year-old who has had a couple of stints on the PGA Tour since leaving Oklahoma State in 2004, also finished strong, playing the back nine in 5-under 31. Both players took advantage of morning tee times Thursday at El Bosque Golf Club in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico.
