SAN DIEGO — There’s no offseason for PGA Tour players. At least that’s been the popular refrain in recent years.
But Hunter Mahan has arrived at this Farmers Insurance Open to tell you that it’s not true. When he puts the peg in the ground Thursday morning, it will have been 100 days since his last PGA Tour competition, a round of 70 and a T-19 at the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai on Nov. 8.
It was a break much needed, the first time Mahan has given himself such a lengthy offseason. In years past, Mahan played plenty in the fall and on a good note, his success meant appearances in the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
