PALM HARBOR, Fla. (AP) -- Will MacKenzie leaned on his putter Friday morning for a 4-under 67 to take the early lead in the second round of the Valspar Championship.

MacKenzie's side of the draw appeared to have an advantage. The wind calmed late on Thursday, and there was little more than a strong breeze Friday morning. It began to pick up right when Jordan Spieth and late starters went out in the afternoon.

Spieth opened with a 76 and needed a low round to make the cut.

MacKenzie was at 5-under 137, two shots ahead of a large group that included a pair of Augusta natives - Charles Howell III and Scott Brown - who need to win to qualify for the Masters.
