The LPGA isn’t entertaining any offers to change the venue for the Ricoh Women’s British Open. Days after Donald Trump released the LPGA from its contract at Trump Turnberry, Golfweek obtained a letter from David Southworth, president and CEO of Southworth Development, to LPGA commissioner Mike Whan offering to move the upcoming major championship to his property, Machrihanish Dunes. The event is scheduled to take place in two weeks.
Southworth acknowledged the difficulties that remote Machrihanish would present for spectators given the environmentally sensitive areas that surround the course, but noted that a herd of “very friendly and photogenic” sheep that maintain areas of rough would “add greatly to the event’s atmosphere and also constitute a very knowledgeable gallery for the players.
