He wished to be treated as any other member, but that couldn’t happen for Ben Hogan at Shady Oaks. Sure, others would leave him alone when he hit balls and tested equipment after lunch on the course’s “Little Nine,” but those fortunate enough to visit and play the private club in Fort Worth wanted to know: Isn’t this where Hogan hangs out?
It was. In the old clubhouse, which was damaged by fire in 2002, he’d have lunch at the same table, overlooking the course. After Hogan’s death in 1997, the club decided to fix up his double locker and display it in the pro shop.
