SPRINGFIELD, N.J. – Lee Westwood credits a drill that he learned from instructor Pete Cowen for having helped salvage a round that was getting ugly fast.
Starting on the back nine of Baltusrol Golf Club’s Lower Course, Westwood opened the PGA Championship with a bogey Thursday and stood 2 over after five holes. Despite the early scorecard blemishes, he didn’t think that his results reflected his ballstriking.
“You have to be patient on major championships, not panic,” Westwood said. “Even though I was 2 over par, I was hitting it well; I was hitting good shots, so just got to wait.
