INVERNESS, Scotland – Lee Westwood has played in nine Ryder Cups, and former European captain Paul McGinley would be amazed if the Englishman is not representing Europe at Hazeltine National this fall at the 2016 matches.
McGinley, the winning captain at Gleneagles in 2014, talked about Westwood at a Ballantine’s Scotch event at the Scottish Open, this week’s European Tour’s stop.
“When a guy of his caliber, his experience, his stature, his Ryder Cup record, his form, come on, how is he not going to be on the team?” McGinley said with wry smile. “I think he might do Darren (Clarke, Europe’s captain) a favor by making it on merit.
