Paul Lawrie played his first nine holes Thursday at the KLM Open in just 28 strokes, a blazing start that paved the way to an opening 9-under 61 and a share of the first-round lead.
For much of the day, the 46-year-old Scot actually held a two-shot lead, before Australia's Wade Ormsby caught Lawrie late in the day at that 9-under figure.
Regardless, Lawrie was ecstatic with his Day One score.
"Sixty-one - it sounds good, doesn’t it?" Lawrie said. "A nine under round there on that day with the wind picking up in the afternoon, was a good knock.
