CHOUDRANT, La. (AP) -- Lauren Greenlief won the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur on Thursday, beating defending champion Margaret Shirley 2 and 1 at Squire Creek.

The 25-year-old Greenlief, from Oakton, Virginia, became the youngest winner in the history of the event limited to players 25 and older. The former University of Virginia player is a management consultant for The Boston Consulting Group.

''It's the coolest feeling ever,'' Greenlief said. ''I think every golfer, especially every amateur golfer, really dreams of being a USGA champion, because it's really the pinnacle of amateur golf. To get my name etched on the trophy forever is something that I know will be a highlight of my golf career.
