The crowds were ready for a Tiger hunt and they turned out in droves at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. No doubt the TV audience was equally boosted by the prospects of Woods’ emergence from season-long (actually, two-season-long) dormancy. Folks I know who normally don't watch such a golf tournament spent the afternoon keeping track.
So yes, it was good to see Woods in the chase heading out Sunday, in the next to-last group, only two shots back. And the fact that they were playing an old-fashioned Donald Ross course in ideal condition with great fairway roll and front-tilting greens meant that Woods could leave his unreliable driver game in the bag and get away with a lot of long-irons and fairway metals off the tee.
