Cristie Kerr on Wednesday was named the winner of the Golf Writers Association of America’s Charlie Bartlett Award, given to a player who contributes to the betterment of society through charitable giving.
Kerr was honored for her work in the fight against breast cancer.
After her mother, Linda, was diagnosed with the disease, Kerr was inspired in 2003 to start the Birdies for Breast Cancer Celebrity Golf Classic in Jersey City, N.J. The event funded creation of the Cristie Kerr Women’s Health Center, which makes breast cancer screening, diagnostic testing and treatment programs available to women regardless of their ability to pay in the New York tri-state region.
