The 21-year-old notched two more victories on Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals at the U.S. Amateur. Konishi first took down Illinois star Thomas Detry in 19 holes at the North Course early in the day and followed that with another nail-biter in defeating Michigan’s Kyle Mueller 2 up in the afternoon.
