LANCASTER, Pa. — Veteran Karrie Webb of Australia made four birdies on her second nine holes for a 4-under 66 and a share of the lead with American Marina Alex midway through the first round of the U.S. Women's Open.
The 40-year-old Webb, a seven-time major champion and two-time Women's Open winner, opened on the back nine Thursday and ran off 10 straight pars before making her move on the front side with birdies at the 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th holes at Lancaster Country Club.
Alex, playing in her second Open and first since 2009, was an unlikely first-round co-leader.
