KAPALUA, Hawaii — The official colors of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions were as vibrant as ever — green stage, blue sky — but it was a missing ingredient that set the tone for the first round.
A lack of wind.
“It was just so light,” Justin Thomas said.
“Perfect,” Brandt Snedeker said. “You had to be aggressive.”
And when the titanium-toting crowd takes on the Plantation Course in such tranquil conditions, oh how you sit back and watch those white pellets fly toward Molokai.
Take away the three par-3s, and the longest tee balls were vintage stuff.
